JAPAN | JUNE 2016

I roll out of bed at 6 a.m. with the plan to leave the house for the airport by 7:30 a.m. I quickly hop in the shower, blow dry my hair, and put on my pre-planned outfit before finalizing my packing.

I am not much of a morning person, but travel days are very different. Normally I have to tear myself from my bed in order to head out the door in time, but on days like today, I hop right out of bed in a chipper manner. Despite only sleeping for 3 hours, I am ready for the adventure that awaits.

Japan has always been number one on my list after studying the language in high school and it being the second most eaten food in my house. This was a dream trip for me, which made getting up so early even easier.

10 hours of flying, two lackluster meals, an ice cream sandwich, and a few movies later, I was finally in Japan. Landing in this country was a dream come true — and the best graduation gift I could ever ask for and as the train rolled away from the airport toward Tokyo, the beautiful landscape that I have heard so highly of began to appear. Endless pastures and rolling, green hills made up the trip from Narita Airport to Tokyo and I knew I made the right choice on our spur of the moment post-graduation trip.
