I finally had the chance to visit the infamous Halloweentown aka St Helens, Oregon. This is the town where they filmed some of the town square scenes for my all time favorite Halloween movie: Halloweentown.
I had heard this is one of the most anticlimactic places to visit and boy did it live up to our expectations, which were low.
We arrived in town around the golden hour and first made our way over to the iconic City Hall, which has a reproduction of the jack-o-lantern from the movie.
As we walked through the gates, a worker asked us if we wanted a picture and offered us a map. We took both and soon found out parts of Twilight were also filmed here. Of course we were going to take the opportunity to visit the world-renowned sets of what I deem the greatest film in history (not.).
We quickly rushed over to the parking lot where Edward saved Bella *gasp*, then made our way over to the movie theater used in the movie, and then to another parking lot, which we found out was the actual one where Edward saved Bella. I am not very good with maps. Sam reenacted the scene in which he saves Bella and I could have sworn it was the real thing. Mind blowing.
We rounded out the trip to St. Helens with a stop at Aggie Cromwell’s house, the Thunderbird and Whale Bookstore, and Bella’s infamous house. In all seriousness, this was actually a very pretty, old house surrounded by orange leaves that were ready to fall.
We had a fun time running around St Helens, reenacting the terrible movie that is Twilight and laughing until our stomachs hurt.
We ended the day celebrating Sam’s Mom’s birthday and watching the Dodgers lose to the Astros.
My recommendation: do not take a trip to Oregon just to see this place. If you are in town, then head out there, but otherwise it isn’t worth it. We just happened to be celebrating Mrs. Olson’s birthday in Scappoose just a few minutes down the road, so it was a great time killer!
